Latex vs Oil Paint: The Core Difference
Latex paint is water-based. Despite the name, most current latex paints do not contain natural rubber latex. They use acrylic or vinyl-acrylic resins carried in water. As the water evaporates, the resin forms a protective film over the painted surface.
Traditional oil paint uses alkyd resins and petroleum-based solvents. It dries through solvent evaporation and then continues curing through oxidation. That slower curing process gives oil paint more time to flow out and level, which is why it has long been valued for detailed woodwork and smooth finish carpentry.

Cabinets are not a standard wall-paint project. They need degreasing, thorough sanding or deglossing, proper primer selection, and a durable cabinet-grade coating.
